This is a very nice and thoughtful piece - a reminder of both the importance of "rites of passage," and the necessity of worthy role models. Young men and women need to be taught and shown the importance of a code of honor - our society has taken the concept of "do as I say, not as I do" to an absurd degree. Are we surprised, then, that we're dealing with the effects of a generation who were essentially raised without morals?
Our concern shouldn't be that our kids might use guns ... our concern should be that we may raise another generation of kids who don't have the responsibility to be trusted around guns.
I have to wonder if the folks who are responsible for so much of our current financial and political scandals were taken into the woods and taught the values mentioned in this article ... would we be in the mess we're in right now?
Anyone looking for a bit more information about the code of chivalry and "modern knights" might want to check out our website: www.ChivalryToday.com
